General
What is Colossyan Learn?
Colossyan Learn is an e-learning authoring platform that lets you create complete, professional training courses. Courses can include rich text, stock and uploaded media, AI-generated Colossyan videos, quizzes, assessments, and branded styling, all built within a single tool.
Who is Colossyan Learn for?
It is designed for L&D and training teams (onboarding, compliance, skills development), enablement teams (sales training, product knowledge, process guides), and individual creators (courses to sell, client training, freelance content).
Do I need to use the Colossyan video editor separately?
No. Colossyan Learn is bundled with the video product. You can create video drafts, generate videos, and embed them directly into your courses without leaving the platform. There is no need to create videos in the editor first and import them.
Course Structure
How are courses structured?
Courses follow a four-level hierarchy: Course > Lesson > Page > Content Block. Think of it like a book: the course is the book, lessons are chapters, pages are the pages within those chapters, and content blocks are the paragraphs, images, and exercises on each page.
What types of content blocks are available?
- Rich text (paragraph, headings, bulleted and numbered lists)
- Media (stock images and videos, uploaded images and videos, Colossyan AI videos)
- Learner questions (multiple choice, multiple response) for formative assessment
- Assessment / Quiz for summative assessment with scoring
- Divider for visual separation
What is the difference between learner questions and assessments?
Learner questions are individual question blocks for formative assessment. They do not count towards the course score by default. Use them to reinforce concepts and add low-stakes knowledge checks throughout lessons.
Assessments (quizzes) are single blocks containing multiple questions, designed for summative assessment. They are linked to scoring by default and count towards the learner's course score. Use them to formally evaluate knowledge, typically at the end of a lesson or course.
Creating Courses
What are the two ways to create a course?
- Create from scratch: you build the course manually, adding lessons, pages, and content blocks yourself.
- Create with AI: you provide source material, objectives, audience, and preferences, and the AI generates a full course structure for you.
What inputs does the AI course creator need?
You provide a course title, source files (text or PDF, up to 5 GB), a course objective, your target audience, a target duration (5-60 minutes), and configuration options including course type (upskilling or compliance), lesson experience (guided or challenge-based), biggest learner risk, and context depth.
Can I review and edit the AI-generated course before it is finalised?
Yes. After the AI generates a course outline, you can edit lesson objectives, reword learning objectives, remove content, or restructure the course before generating the full content.
Does the AI course creator add images, videos, or other media automatically?
Not currently. The AI course creator generates text-based content only. It does not automatically add images, stock media, or other visual assets to the course. Video drafts are created as placeholders, but all media needs to be added or generated manually after the course is created. We are actively working to improve this, and a major release overhauling the AI elements of Colossyan Learn is coming in the months ahead.
Media and Videos
What media can I add to my courses?
You can add stock images and videos from the built-in library, upload your own images and videos, and create or embed Colossyan AI-generated videos.
Does the stock media library include icons or AI-generated images?
No. The stock library currently includes professional stock photographs, illustrations, and short video clips only.
What is the video lifecycle in Colossyan Learn?
Colossyan videos go through two stages: Draft (the video brief and configuration, shown as a placeholder in the course) and Generated video (the finished, rendered video ready for playback). Once generated, the final version replaces the draft automatically.
If I used AI to create my course, do I still need to generate the videos?
Yes. The AI creates video drafts and places them into your course, but you still need to review and generate the final videos before exporting.
Branding
What can I customise with a brand kit?
A brand kit lets you set your colour palette, theme colours (primary, block text, block surface, background), custom fonts (.ttf format), and typography settings (title, subtitle, headline, body text) including font family, weight, and colour.
How do I apply a brand kit to a course?
Open your course, navigate to a page inside a lesson, and select the brand kit selector next to the Preview button at the top of the screen. You can also create or edit brand kits directly from that menu.
Do brand kit changes apply automatically?
Yes. When you select a brand kit, the course updates immediately to reflect the selected colours, fonts, and typography.
Questions and Assessments
What question types are supported?
Both learner questions and assessments support multiple choice (single correct answer) and multiple response (multiple correct answers).
Can I add custom feedback to questions?
Yes. You can customise feedback for correct and incorrect answers on both learner questions and assessment questions. Assessments also support overall pass/fail feedback.
Do learner questions affect the course score?
No. Only questions within assessment (quiz) blocks count towards the course score and success criteria. Learner questions are formative and do not contribute to scoring.
Exporting
What export formats does Colossyan Learn support?
Colossyan Learn currently supports SCORM 1.2 export only.
Will SCORM 2004 and xAPI be supported?
Yes. Support for SCORM 2004 and xAPI is coming. These formats are on the roadmap and will be available in a future release.
Why is the Export button greyed out?
The Export button is greyed out when your course contains Colossyan video drafts that have not been generated yet. SCORM packages can only include generated videos (MP4 files). A notification will list the ungenerated videos with hyperlinks so you can navigate directly to each draft and generate it.
What export settings can I configure?
- File name: defaults to the course name, but can be changed
- Completion criteria: "Started" (complete when the learner starts) or "Ended" (complete when the learner finishes all lessons)
- Success criteria: None by default, or set a specific pass mark percentage
What is SCORM 1.2?
SCORM 1.2 is a widely supported e-learning standard that allows your course to be uploaded to virtually any LMS. The exported package contains all your course content, structure, scoring, and media in a format your LMS can read and track.
Course Library
Where can I find my courses?
In two places: the Home tab (shows recent courses alongside video drafts and generated videos, supports folder organisation) and the Library section (a dedicated view of all courses with browse, search, rename, and delete options).
