The Layers panel gives you full control over every element on your canvas โ no matter how buried it is. Access it by clicking the Layers icon in the floating toolbar. A dropdown panel will open, listing every element on the scene in stacking order.
The layers panel
The panel organises your canvas elements into three sections (each section only appears when that element type exists on the canvas):
- Action Buttons: interactive buttons used in branching or navigation
- Interactive Elements: clickable or dynamic content
- Layers: all other canvas objects (shapes, text, media, avatars, etc.)
Each item in the panel displays a type icon and a smart label, for example, an actor's name, a shape type, a text preview, or "Branching".
What you can do
Select any layer
Click any item in the Layers panel to select it on the canvas, even if it's hidden behind other elements. No more deleting or moving things just to reach what's underneath.
Multiselect
- Ctrl/Cmd + click to toggle individual layers on/off
- Shift + click to select a range of layers
Reorder via drag and drop
Drag layers up or down in the panel to change their stacking order. When multiple layers are selected, they all move together.
Spotlight a layer
Click the spotlight icon on any layer to dim everything else to 10% opacity, bringing that element to the front visually. Perfect for focusing on one element in a busy scene.
Lock a layer
Lock a layer to prevent it from being accidentally selected or moved on the canvas. Locked layers can still be reordered in the panel. Use the multiselect header to bulk-lock multiple layers at once.
Group and ungroup
- Cmd/Ctrl + G to group selected layers
- Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + G to ungroup
- Also available via right-click context menu and the bulk action header
Animation shortcut
Hover over any layer in the panel and click the animation icon to open the Animate panel for that element directly. No need to select it on the canvas first.
Canvas hover sync
Hover over a layer in the panel, and the corresponding element highlights on the canvas. This also works in reverse: hover over an element on the canvas, and it highlights in the panel.
Right-click context menu
Right-clicking any layer in the panel gives you quick access to: Cut, Copy, Paste, Duplicate, Delete, Lock, Reorder (Bring to Front / Send to Back / Bring Forward / Send Backwards), Align, Space Evenly, and Group/Ungroup.
Classic reordering
You can still reorder elements directly from the canvas by right-clicking or using the object toolbar:
- Send to Back: Makes the object the bottom layer
- Send Backwards: Moves the object one layer back
- Bring Forward: Moves the object one layer forward
- Bring to Front: Makes the object the top layer
๐ก Pro Tips
- Spotlight + animation is a powerful combo for drawing attention to a specific element in a complex scene.
- Use locking to protect background elements (like a branded background image) while you work on foreground content.
- Canvas hover sync makes it easy to identify elements in a crowded scene without guessing.
